Tibetan Veg Momos

Veg Momos are a popular Tibetan steamed dumpling that has gained immense popularity across the Indian subcontinent. The dumplings consist of a filling made from finely chopped vegetables like cabbage, carrots, onions, and spring onions, mixed with a blend of aromatic spices like ginger, garlic, salt, and black pepper. The filling is then wrapped in a thin layer of dough and steamed until cooked through.

 Ingredients

For the dough

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

Water, as needed

For the filling

2 cups finely chopped cabbage

1 cup grated carrots

1/2 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup finely chopped spring onion

1/4 cup chopped cilantro

1 teaspoon grated ginger

1 teaspoon grated garlic

2 tablespoons oil

Salt to taste

Black pepper to taste

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Slowly add water and knead the dough until it's smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and set aside for 30 minutes.

In another mixing bowl, combine the chopped cabbage, grated carrots, finely chopped onion, spring onion, cilantro, grated ginger, grated garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything well.

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the vegetable mixture and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are slightly cooked. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Take a small portion of the dough and roll it out into a thin circle. The circle should be about 3-4 inches in diameter.

Place a tablespoon of the vegetable mixture in the center of the circle. Then, pinch the edges of the circle together to create pleats and seal the momo.

Repeat with the remaining dough and filling until all the momos are made.

Steam the momos in a steamer basket for 8-10 minutes or until the dough is cooked through.

Serve the momos hot with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as soy sauce, chili sauce, or tomato sauce.

Enjoy your delicious Veg Momos!
